Flat-panel glass holds reasons to be positive for Corning 3rd March 2008

Corning Inc has remained positive about prospects for its flagship flat-panel glass business despite a faltering US economy.

At the Annual Goldman Sachs Technology Investment Symposium in Las Vegas, the firm announced several reasons why the year was looking positive.

Developing a relationship between Sharp and Sony could have positive impacts for Corning Inc while the strength of Silicon demand was also noted as a positive.

Corning Inc also felt that makers of liquid crystal display panels are using most of their manufacturing capacity and in January and February the firm kept on this trend with liquid crystal display glass at full production.

Another reason for Corning Inc to be cheerful was the rise in the existing inventory of liquid crystal display panels.

Meanwhile Timothy Johnson, Director of Emerging Regulations and Technologies at Corning Inc, is set to be honoured on April 15th in Detroit by the Society of Automotive Engineers.

Mr Johnson will receive the group's "fellow" designation for his work in diesel technology and the presentation is due to take place at the 2008 World Congress Awards, Star-Gazette.com reports.
