Europe preparing for fuel cell vehicles 24th November 2006

Europe is increasingly gearing up for a hydrogen economy and a growth in fuel cell vehicles.

Recent developments have seen a number of new hydrogen refuelling stations cropping up across the continent, which will provide the infrastructure for fuel cell vehicles to become a viable form of transport.

Italy's Agip has launched a MultiEnergy service station in Germany in an unveiling which was attended by Alois Rhiel, minister of economics, transport and territorial development for the region of Assia.

And in the Netherlands, the Energy Research Centre of the Netherlands (ECN) at Petten has unveiled a hydrogen filling station to serve ECN's hydrogen-powered HydroGEM vehicle.

The station will also provide refuelling options for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, as Europe continues to prepare for the widescale use of fuel cell cars and trucks in the future.
