Encouraging news for GM 11th December 2006
General Motors (GM) has seen an increase in its European sales, as the manufacturer continues to attempt to pull itself out of decline.
The company has seen falls in profit as sales have subsided in recent years and has developed restructuring programmes and reduced production to cope with the problem.
In Europe, its tactics appear to be paying off, with the company reporting a five per cent increase in sales during November. The growth highlights the better sales figures which have been coming out of Europe in recent months as the automotive industry appears to be getting back on track at long last.
The increase in GM's sales has been headed by good growth in its Chevrolet division, with sales in Russia doing particularly well.
Looking to the future, GM Chief Executive, Rick Wagoner, has also recognised the importance of developing new types of vehicles, such as hybrid and clean fuel vehicles.
Speaking to Auto Week, Mr Wagoner commented that the company is keeping track of new developments to ensure it is at the forefront of the changing marketplace.
