A new platinum-encrusted iPad worth $520,000 (£299,995) has been unveiled in the UK.

The 'Supreme Edition' design features 85.5 carats of I'F' flawless diamonds and 173 individually-set gems on its solid platinum rear, which weighs in at 2.7kg.

Stuart Hughes, the elite gadget designer behind the device, explained that it should prove to be extremely sought-after as only five models are being sold.

"This iPad's appearance is dazzling, even down to the precise polishing, to reveal its most beautiful reflective appearance," he said on his official website.

"A magnificent combination of top of the industry technology and unrivalled craftsmanship was involved in creating this masterpiece."

Mr Hughes also confirmed that his iPad is the Wi-Fi and 3G version, boasting 64GB of storage capacity.

Late last year, the designer released the world's most expensive iPhone, which featured a vast array of solid gold and flawless diamonds to take its value to £1.92 million.
