Deadline nears for JM platinum jewellery design competition entries 22nd November 2010
Young jewellery designers planning to enter a prestigious competition have been reminded that the deadline is fast approaching.
The first edition of the Johnson Matthey Sustainable Design Awards will see entrants submit a drawing or image of a new piece crafted from .950 platinum.
Individuals with fewer than five years' experience, postgraduates and final-year students are all eligible but must send in their offerings by this Thursday (25th November).
Designs must meet a number of criteria, such as wearability, commercial viability, market novelty, the ability to be produced in platinum and sparing usage of stones.
"The name of the competition was a great fit with what we had been talking about over the least year regarding metals sourcing, but also how we felt about designing and manufacturing in platinum," said Mark Danks, Johnson Matthey's Sales and Marketing Manager of Platinum and Palladium Jewellery Products in New York.
Three winners will be selected by the esteemed panel of nine judges, with the $30,000 prize pool including professional photography of the successful piece and coverage in the MJSA Journal and on preciousplatinum.com.
