DaimlerChrysler heralds Bluetec 24th January 2007
Automaker DaimlerChrysler has called on US consumers to embrace the launch of the new Bluetec diesel engines.
The company is behind the development of the new engines, which offer fuel economy improvements of between 20 to 40 per cent as well as up to 90 per cent reduction on oxides of nitrogen.
Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management at DaimlerChrysler, as well as Head of Mercedes Car Group, called on the US to provide more incentives for consumers to buy fuel-efficient vehicles.
Speaking at the Washington, DC Auto Show, Dr Zetsche commented: "American policy-makers must adopt a new and unique formula ... that encourages more technologies and more [customer] choice."
Mercedes has been pioneering the Bluetec concept in Europe and Dr Zetsche is now looking to bring the fuel-efficient diesel engine into the US marketplace.
