Daimler takes biggest ever hybrid bus order 12th October 2005
The biggest ever order for hybrid electric buses has been received by DaimlerChrysler.
Both New York City Transit and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) have placed orders for 216 and 284 electric buses respectively.
Orion VII hybrid-electric buses will be supplied to the transport companies. These vehicles offer a 90 per cent reduction in particulate matter, as well as emitting 40 per cent fewer nitrogen oxide gases and 30 per cent fewer greenhouse gases.
"This order further underlines our ongoing commitment not only to the markets but to the environment, through our investments in alternate drive technologies and products," commented DaimlerChrysler board member Andreas Renschler.
New York transport agencies already have 325 hybrid vehicles in their fleets.
Deliveries of the newly ordered vehicles are scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2006.
