Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon star Zhang Ziyi has made her debut appearance as the face of Platinum Guild International's (PGI) 2007 collection as the company unveiled its latest designs.

As well as making public appearances, Ms Ziyi will film a commercial due to air in April for My Platinum 2007 Radiance collection, as the company launches its new Platinum Women campaign.

Explaining the decision to choose Ms Ziyi, James Courage, Chief Executive of PGI said: "We see Ms Zhang as having qualities and characteristics that are so very similar to those of platinum - pure and strong; and whose loveliness grows with time. PGI is confident that our partnership will be extremely successful."

This year's collection of 12 sets is based around a theme of flowers from all four seasons and has been crafted by a leading Italian jewellery designer.

Stand-out pieces include Plum and Jasmine, which employ unadorned and sandblasted platinum respectively to stunning effect.

Zhang Ziyi's new role as PGI's standard bearer comes after she has delivered a succession of acclaimed performances in Memoirs of A Geisha, My Father and Mother, Hero and Banquet.
