Corning sees profits surge 28th October 2005
LCD manufacturer Corning has announced massive profits during the third quarter of 2005 as demand for LCD screens continued to grow.
The company revealed that its profits jumped during the three months to September 30th, climbing over the $200 million mark.
Announcing profits of $203 million, the massive returns from its LCD television screens business is all the more remarkable when compared to Corning's figures for the same period last year, when it suffered a loss of $2.5 million.
The LCD market has seen a huge increase in demand over the past few months, as consumers are becoming increasingly keen to purchase LCD televisions.
As the LCD panels used in televisions are also the largest screens built, Corning has benefited from the boom in demand for its most lucrative product.
However, recent research from iSuppli has warned that this upturn in demand is putting increased pressure on the suppliers of LCD components, which could lead to demand soon outstripping supply and therefore pushing up prices once more.
