Corning considers new LCD plant 1st March 2006

Glass manufacturer Corning says it is provisionally planning to build a new production plant in South Korea on the back of demand for liquid crystal display (LCD) television screens.

Speaking at the Reuters Global Technology, Media and Telecoms Summit, chief operating officer Peter Volanakis said the demand for the flat-panel screens was continuing.

The factory would be the third in the region, with Mr Volankis telling Reuters the signs were that it would go ahead.

"We'll probably think of a third site in Korea," he commented.

Corning said earlier this month that it expects the LCD glass market to grow more than 40 per cent this year.
