ConRoast pgm smelting technology 'ready for commercialisation' 4th June 2010
Jubilee Platinum confirmed on Wednesday (2nd June) that 50,000 tonnes of pgm material was processed through its ConRoast facility by March.
The platinum junior revealed that the research and development phase has been completed with Mintek, the company which developed the technology.
As a result, Jubilee now believes that it is close to commercialising ConRoast, which has been licensed exclusively to its subsidiary, Braemore Resources, until 2020.
"The ConRoast process has throughout its development phase demonstrated that it is an environmentally friendlier, safer and more efficient processing solution than the traditional matte collection furnaces for the recovery of PGMs from chrome-rich concentrates," said Jubilee Chief Executive Colin Bird.
"To date, the demonstration facility at Mintek has achieved the necessary results confirming that the ConRoast smelting route is the industry solution for chrome-rich concentrates."
Meanwhile, Mintek Chief Executive Abiel Mgomuzulu has confirmed that his company will provide technical support to Jubilee for the duration of the commercialisation process.
Jubilee's main pgm involvement in South Africa is the Tjate platinum project, in which it has a 63 per cent beneficial interest.
