Classic platinum items to feature in London exhibition 27th June 2006
Some of the finest and most influential platinum jewellery items ever to be crafted by Tiffany and Co throughout its history are on display in an exhibition in London, it has been announced.
The Bejewelled by Tiffany, 1837-1987 event will be held in the city's Somerset House and is though to be the most comprehensive exhibition of Tiffany jewellery ever mounted.
Many of the works, some of which are from private collections, have never before been on public display.
The classic platinum pieces in the exhibition include several pieces by pioneering post-war designer Jean Schlumberger as well as a gold, ruby, sapphire and diamond-encrusted US flag dating back to the 1900s.
Pieces by French designer Jean Schlumberger include his Bird on a Rock brooch, set with rubies.
A platinum and emerald Dragon brooch, by 1960s US designer Donald Claflin, will also feature.
A platinum bonbonniere also features in the Opulent Accessories section of the display. It was originally exhibited by Tiffany's during the Paris Exposition in 1889.
Stylish ‘Art Deco’ pieces include a lapis lazuli and platinum diamond ring made in Paris, and a platinum and diamond ‘skyscraper’ necklace.
