Jewellers have received a boost with the news that CIBJO - the World Jewellery Confederation has released an updated version of one of its 'Blue Book' range.

The resource, which is designed to support companies' sales of platinum and palladium pieces, now contains a new appendix offering information on precious metal fineness.

First launched in 2007, the 'Precious Metals Book' is the second to be released by the group since the 2010 CIBJO Congress meeting, following the arrival of the 'Pearl Book' in April.

"The appendix can now be lawfully sold in CIBJO member countries worldwide," read a statement from CIBJO.

"It is considered an invaluable reference for jewellery manufacturers in all countries throughout the world."

The Blue Book range was originally put together by committees formed from representatives of trade organisations and laboratories in various jewellery sectors.

Each book attempts to provide guidance on the grading, methodology and nomenclature standards that should be used for the manufacture of diamonds, gemstones and precious metals.

Earlier this week, CIBJO President Gaetano Cavalieri urged China to become a major force in the global jewellery industry.
