Chinese LCD market rising 22nd February 2006
Sales of flat screen televisions to China are expected to double in 2007 and continue to rise, according to a new report.
Chinese demand is set to outpace the rest of the world as the nation gears up to host the 2008 Olympics.
Chinese-language Economic Daily News is quoted as saying that LCD sales will reach six million in 2007 and ten million by 2008. The report also said that the growth rate will exceed the global LCD TV market growth rate of 76 per cent.
The paper quoted David Hsieh, president of DisplaySearch Taiwan, saying that China is the world's largest TV market with LCD sales booming in it.
LCD televisions were not the only luxury goods to experience growth in the Middle Kingdom. Industry figures predict sales of everything from Swiss watches to BMW cars are set to grow as China emerges as a major luxury-goods market.
Recent figures from the same researcher, DisplaySearch, show that LCD growth came as plasma screen sales were slower than expected throughout 2005.
Sales of LCD TVs are growing not just in China but around the world as prices drop and become more accessible to consumers.
