China welcomes first home-grown LCD glass substrate production line 13th October 2010
IRICO is set to commence operations at its new LCD glass substrate production line, it was confirmed yesterday (12th October).
The Chinese company has built the country's first Gen 6 production line at the Flat Panel Display Industrial Park in Hefei, which is the capital city of Hefei province.
IRICO has now fired up its first furnace as it attempts to make its mark on the LCD panel sector, which has "been monopolised by foreign countries" until now, according to Anhui News.
"To turn the unfavourable situation around, IRICO Group Corporation, the country's largest LCD glass substrate maker, [is investing] ten billion yuan in LCD glass substrate programmes," noted a report by the news provider.
The firm is expected to establish six production lines by June 2011, with a total capacity of 2.38 million pieces.
IRICO is the largest colour picture tube manufacturer in the world and is listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange.
