China's car sales continue to see strong growth 18th October 2005
Car sales in China have risen again, as the country's automotive sector continues to boom.
According to figures released by the China Passenger Car Association, sales during September 2005 jumped by 36.8 per cent compared to the previous year, with 286,400 passenger vehicles sold over the course of the month.
That figure was also 16.2 per cent higher than the number of vehicles sold during August this year, highlighting the growing interest in vehicles among the country's consumers.
International carmakers GM and Volkswagen topped the number of cars sold, while two of the largest Chinese companies also saw sales rise.
Chery and Geely saw their September sales rise above 10,000 units, although they both remained some way behind Shanghai GM, which was ranked first with a total of 31,719 passenger cars sold.
The Chinese car market has been growing at a fast pace over the past year, despite a general slowdown in car sales around the world. Recent figures have shown that other markets, including the US and Europe, are now beginning to pick up once again, with the summer months proving popular with consumers.
