China issues new palladium coins 11th June 2004

China has reissued a series of palladium coins, characterised by the "Kissing Pandas" motif.

The coins were first issued in 1989, but are only being reproduced for the first time now.

A total of 8,000 of the proof half-ounce pure palladium Panda 100 Yuan coins have been issued by The People's Bank of China.

The coins depict a mother and its cub in an embrace, and come in a presentation package designed to suit collectors.

The coins are far rarer than their gold and silver equivalents, with 75,000 gold versions and 600,000 silver being authorised.
