Chancellor Gordon Brown has announced a raft of new measures in his pre-Budget report which are designed to increase the demand for green vehicles.

On vehicle emissions, Mr Brown revealed that the government plans to look at the possibility of incentivising the uptake of Euro V standards, as well as looking at the potential of improving existing incentives for fuel efficient vehicles.

Mr Brown also stated that significant reductions in all air pollutants can be expected and while the government may not reach its targets in all parts of the country, it is reviewing its Air Quality Strategy to look at this.

The report also unveiled plans to support the development and growth of biofuels across the UK, pointing out that by October developments had already resulted in an eight-fold increase in the use of biofuels since the start of the year.

It is hoped that the proposals contained in the pre-Budget report will help to engender some growth in the automotive sector, by encouraging more people to go green and to provide the incentives for companies to produce and sell fuel efficient vehicles in the UK.
