Celebrities help pioneer vintage platinum jewellery trend 6th May 2005
Platinum period jewellery pieces are becoming an increasingly attractive proposition for celebrities, according to leading Hollywood observers.
Trends pioneered by figures such as Neill Lane, famous for his creations for the Oscars and the Golden Globes are becoming established by the glitterati.
In particular the marrying of one-off "vintage" pieces with platinum has proved popular, as Lane explained to Diamonds.net.
"Vintage offers individual style and movie stars don't want to be lumped together. These are the most glamorous women in the world," he said.
Another prestigious jeweller, Martin Katz, says that he first explored this approach in 1996, when Kate Winslet wore a platinum and diamond Edwardian style necklace.
According to Lane the key to these celebrity trends is how influential they are on the market in general.
"It says to someone in Kansas that it's okay to wear antique brooches on your lapel. It gives them confidence. Movie stars are now arbiters of taste."
Lane is now planning to launch a new collection, with one item from the oeuvre - black and white diamond earrings mounted in platinum - already being shown off by a celebrity in the form of Drew Barrymore at this year's Oscars.
