Car sales soar in China 12th May 2006
Car sales in China last month saw an increase of 45.1 per cent increase on a year ago, according to the Shanghai Daily.
It was the fourth consecutive month that car sales have seen an increase of over 40 per cent. Sales are now predicted to rise to more than five million over 2006.
A record 1.68 million sales were made during the four months leading up to April, which was an increase of 58.8 per cent on a year earlier.
Chinese car makers managed to sell 312,246 passenger vehicles including sedans, SUVs and multi-purpose vehicles during April.
A conflicting report from the AFX news company said that sales had been even stronger and stood at 1.72 million for the four month period, quoting figures from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.
