British jewellery market defies sluggish retail figures 15th April 2003

Figures from the British Retail Consortium released today (April 15th) show that the jewellery market has performed well in the last month, despite the overall outlook proving gloomy.

Whilst growth in high-street sales slowed and the cost of manufactured goods rose sharply, the BRC-KPMG retail sales monitor found jewellery was one of the few markets to show a strong performance.

The news follows on from the same figures issued for February, which also reported that jewellery was enjoying a prosperous period.

A number of jewellery retailers in the UK such as Signet have reported increases in sales during the last month.
