British Columbia makes retrofitted pgm filters mandatory 20th August 2007
The British Columbia government is working to tackle air pollution and is tightening the rules regarding heavy duty diesel vehicles.
The organisation's Ministry of Environment has introduced new laws that make platinum group metal catalyst filters mandatory for all 1989 to 1993 heavy duty diesel vehicles.
Under the new regulations, operators will have until 2009 to retrofit these models with the required filters and it is believed that the move will have a significant impact on pollution levels.
According to the British Columbia Government, this measure will help to cut particulate matter pollution by 60 tonnes per year.
The organisation is also investing in a number of other pollution-reducing schemes, such as providing rebates on hybrid vehicle purchases and a commitment to increase the use of hybrid vehicles.
