British car marque Morgan to unveil platinum catalyst fuel cell car 10th April 2007

Classic British car manufacturer Morgan is to incorporate up-to-the-minute platinum catalysts and hydro fuel cell technology into a new vehicle.

The new automobile, dubbed the Life Car, has been developed via a partnership with Oxford and Cranfield universities and Qinteq, which has developed fuel cell technology for defence projects and industrial hydrogen supplier Linde.

Due to be unveiled in spring of next year at the Geneva expo, the Life Car will be equipped with a small fuel cell that delivers 33 brake horsepower and is set to combine the classically English styling associated with Morgan with the very latest innovations in car technology.

Notably the car does not employ brakes, but uses a system of in-wheel electricity-powered motors, which act to recycle the energy the car generates.

Charles Morgan, grandson of the founder of the company, told the Sunday Times: "The Life Car's purpose is to demonstrate that a zero-emissions vehicle can also be fun to drive."

No date has thus far been set for making the Life Car commercially available.
