With the Hollywood awards season upon us, the number of women looking to get the latest look hot off the red carpet is increasing.

As platinum becomes an ever-popular choice with stars, particularly at awards ceremonies, the precious metal is now in the public eye more than ever.

This year, earrings appear to be the must-have accessory of celebrities, with the likes of Reese Witherspoon and Mischa Barton appearing at various awards ceremonies wearing some impressive pieces.

Reese Witherspoon, currently starring in Walk The Line, the film of singer Johnny Cash's life that is tipped to win big at this year's Oscars and has already netted her a Golden Globe, arrived at the awards ceremony wearing triple-drop diamond earrings which are estimated to have cost a six-figure sum.

While many women are unlikely to be able to afford such an expensive piece of jewellery, platinum items are becoming increasingly popular because so many stars enjoy wearing them.

That is particularly the case this year, with many different stars, including the UK's Hugh Laurie, appearing on the red carpet in platinum items.
