Aquarius announces third quarter results 28th October 2005

Platinum miner Aquarius has announced record levels of group attributable production during the third quarter of the year.

Recording a marginal rise on the previous quarter's production, the company stated that it had an output of 103,869 pgm ounces during the three months to September 30th.

However, Aquarius's pool and share deal with Angloplats at the Kroondal mine saw a fall in production of 1.1 per cent compared to the previous quarter, which was blamed on lower than expected head grades at its Number Three shaft.

The company also stated that its expansion operations remain on track, while profits showed a major jump compared to the third quarter of 2004.

Aquarius revealed revenue of $80.99 million, almost doubling the figure of $45.59 million from the same period last year.

Chief executive Stuart Murray predicted earlier in the year that the company would double its profits in the next one to two years and the company was the subject of rumours about a possible takeover bid during the summer months as companies began to position themselves to take advantage of Aquarius's growing reputation in the market.
