Aquarius and Implats boost Mimosa production 21st September 2005
Aquarius Platinum and Implats have announced details of a 25 per cent production increase at the Mimosa platinum mine in Zimbabwe.
The two platinum firms said that the initiative will build on previously successful expansions, marking the fourth stage in the ongoing development of facilities at the mine.
Production of pgms will rise from 135,000 ounces to 168,750 ounces, with the South Hill ore body delivering the fillip once the work is completed - estimated to be by June 2006.
Costing around $14 million, the two firms say the "Wedza Phase IV" expansion will help boost production, while not having "an impact on day to day operations, or [...] on the life-of-mine".
Retained cash flows at Mimosa and $10 million in funding from the Merchant Bank of Central Africa will finance the development.
Work on the project will start on October 1st, with construction work finished by May of next year.
