Anooraq predicts Lebowa will hit 160,000 tonnes per month 18th August 2009
Anooraq Resources revealed yesterday (17th August) that it expects output at its Lebowa mine to reach 160,000 tonnes of platinum bearing ore in the near future, Mining Weekly reports.
The platinum junior had originally decided in May to alter its schedule for the facility - which is located on the Bushveld Complex in South Africa - due to tough pgm market conditions.
As part of the move, Anglo Platinum, which has a 50 per cent stake in the joint venture, postponed the upper group two expansion to 125,000 tonnes per month.
This saw output maintained at 45,000 tonnes per month, while the world's largest platinum producer also continued to increase output at the Brakfontein shaft on the Merensky reef to 120,000 tonnes per month.
However, Anooraq announced the new update in its latest financial results, which saw the company decrease its net loss to C$5.2 million for the second quarter to the end of June.
Anooraq Resources has a number of other pgm interest on the Bushveld Complex, including the Ga-Phasha and Boikgantsho projects.
