Angloplats selects Nkwe for SA projects 25th June 2004

The Australian-listed mining junior Nkwe Platinum has been selected to develop Anglo American Platinum's Elandsfontein and Rooderand platinum group metal projects in South Africa.

Perth-based Nkwe announced yesterday that it had joined forces with two South African partners to win Angloplats' tender process for the project.

According to the Dow Jones newswire, Nkwe has now been granted a 'period of exclusivity' to conclude negotiations with Angloplats.

Nkwe managing director Craig Oliver said the firm anticipates confirming final terms within the next few months.

"We'll be working together with Anglo to fast track it as quickly as possible. The thing that's a little uncertain is the time it will take to convert from old order mining rights to new order mining rights," he stated.

It is estimated that the Elandsfontein project area holds an inferred resource of 16 million ounces of platinum, palladium, rhodium and gold, while the Rooderand project area contains an inferred resource of 6 million ounces.
