Anglo Platinum plans new training facility 25th May 2007
Mining giant Anglo Platinum has announced plans to establish a major new training facility at its Twickenham mine in Limpopo.
The company's board has approved the establishment of the R283 million training facility that will train 2,000 employees per year.
Under the plans of the scheme, construction of the facility will begin in June this year and it should be ready to begin taking students as early as next year.
The initiative is aimed at providing employees with the full range of skills needed in both mechanised and traditional methods, providing both above-ground and underground experiences for the trainees.
Anglo Platinum is keen to get the project up and running so that it can help to meet the need for skilled workers on new and existing mines on the Eastern Limb and the Bushveld complex.
This centre on the underdeveloped Eastern Limb will further boost our ability to support all aspects of our expanding production base and the development of the new mines necessary to achieve our planned platinum growth," said Ralph Havenstein, Chief Executive of Anglo Platinum.
