Anglo Platinum, Northam Platinum to reopen mines 24th October 2007
Anglo Platinum and Northam Platinum have both announced the reopening of their mines which had been closed since last week.
Trevor Raymond, Head of Investor relations at Anglo Platinum, told Reuters: "I can confirm that the Department of Minerals and Energy (DME) has agreed that we commence normal operations at the three production areas, normal operations have commenced and we expect to be back to full production tomorrow (Thursday)."
Meanwhile, Marion Brower, a spokeswoman at Northam Platinum, told Reuters: "The order closing the mine was lifted and operations have resumed this morning. Production will build up gradually to optimal levels by early- to mid- next week."
Northam's mine had been shut following the death of a worker in an accident on Tuesday and had been losing around 1,000 oz of platinum production per day as a result.
Anglo Platinum had shut three of its shafts at its Rustenburg operation, since the death of a worker in an accident on Wednesday, resulting in a loss of production of 1,300 oz per day.
