Anglo Platinum continuing PPRust relocation talks 31st May 2007
Anglo Platinum has announced that negotiations are still ongoing into the relocation of communities around its PPRust mine.
The mining giant has faced significant hold-ups in its efforts to get its Potgietersrus operations up and running, with the communities surrounding the mine refusing to leave the area.
Members of the Ga Puka and Ga Sekhaolelo communities have blocked roads in an effort to prevent relocation plans going ahead, but Anglo Platinum has said that there are now negotiations taking place to strike a deal with the communities.
"We hope that the issues that have delayed the start of the relocation will be identified and resolved in discussions now under way between the interested parties," said spokesman Simon Tebele, according to Mining Weekly.
Mr Tebele explained that discussions had begun earlier this week and are due to continue for several days before being resolved.
It is planned that between 100 and 150 families will be resettled by professional movers every month until early 2008.
