Anglo Platinum's strong production figures for 2006 helped parent company, Anglo American, deliver improved results for the year.

Anglo American has revealed a 54 per cent increase in operating profit during 2006, with Anglo Platinum reporting record operating profit of $2,398 million, accounting for almost a quarter (24 per cent) of Anglo American's overall profit.

The growth in platinum production over the course of 2006 is anticipated to continue into 2007, reports Anglo American, with refined platinum production expected to be between 2.8 and 2.9 million ounces this year.

Anglo American also reported that the new projects undertaken by Anglo Platinum over the course of 2006 are scheduled to contribute 456,000 platinum ounces to its output in 2007.
