Anglo Platinum announces Amandelbult production increase 7th December 2006

Anglo Platinum has announced plans to increase output at its Amandelbult plant by 100,000 platinum ounces per year.

The world's largest platinum miner has revealed that it is to invest R1.5 billion in the platinum mine in an effort to substantially increase its production levels.

In a presentation, Anglo Platinum stated that it is looking to boost production at the Amandelbult mine to reach 700,000 ounces per year by the end of the decade.

The increase represents 18 per cent growth on current levels produced by the mine, which last year accounted for 22 per cent of Anglo Platinum's entire platinum output.

The move is an acknowledgement by Anglo Platinum of the need to invest in the mine to halt slides in production over recent years. Last year, Amandelbult's production dipped by six per cent on 2004 figures and as such Anglo Platinum is keen to invest the money to reinvigorate the project.
