Analysts set to overhaul Angloplat 29th June 2004
The world's number one platinum producer, Anglo Platinum (Angloplat), is set to overhaul its processes as a result of increasing pressure from the rand.
Management consultant firm Bain & Co will examine the company structure and its operations, targeting areas where savings and improvements can be made.
Changes are expected to incorporate everything from the way the mining operations work logistically to the composition of the firm's upper management structures.
Spokesperson Mike Mtakati told Business Report that the changes have "a lot to do with the strong rand".
Mr Mtakati said Angloplat would be seeking to implement the recommendations from Bain after July, but would try to do so with some sensitivity to workers.
"We have always said we would look at various ways to minimise jobs cuts," he said. "We would look at things such as skills transfer first. We remain sensitive to cutting jobs. We wouldn't want to cut jobs just for the sake of it."
However, Mtakati could not say how many people would be affected by the proposed changes, reiterating that the overhaul was designed to make things "better and simpler".
