Americans ready to purchase more fuel-efficient (diesel) vehicles 12th September 2008

New research has revealed that a huge majority of Americans intend to make sure that the next vehicle they buy is far more fuel-efficient.

The Diesel Technology Forum conducted a survey relating to the economic and environmental benefits of diesel vehicles and found that 86 per cent expressed such a view.

The study comes as a number of major automakers plan to release a host of new car and truck models over the coming 12 months in order to meet the world's toughest clean air standards.

Allen Schaeffer, Executive Director of the Diesel Technology Forum, commented: "The message is clear: the time for clean diesel is now. With only a few choices available to consumers, diesels have already dramatically cut energy consumption and reduced CO2 emissions.

"With more choices on the way, Americans will continue to benefit as we continue to introduce the public to this new generation of clean diesel cars and light truck choices."

The survey also revealed that just half of respondents were aware that new diesel technologies are able to produce 40 per cent greater fuel efficiency than their gasoline counterparts.
