A diamond as big as the Ritz: Tiffany & Co creates jewels for The Great Gatsby film 14th October 2011
Tiffany & Co has created a collection of platinum and diamond jewellery for Baz Luhrmann's latest film The Great Gatsby.
The New York jeweller has worked with the Australian director and the movie's Oscar-winning costume and production designer Catherine Martin to come up with the designs.
A collection of platinum-set diamonds and lustrous pearls were created to complement the fashion of the 1920s, in which F Scott Fitzgerald set his modern masterpiece.
"This collaboration is a natural for us," said Jon King, executive vice-president of Tiffany & Co.
"Our archives contain spectacular jewels from the 1920s that are the basis of the one-of-a-kind designs we have created for this iconic American story."
Ms Martin agreed that looking through the Tiffany archives proved "invaluable" for creating the designs of the era.
"Tiffany & Co seemed the perfect fit for the jewellery of The Great Gatsby not only because F Scott Fitzgerald himself was a customer, but also because Louis Comfort Tiffany, the brand's first design director, mixed in the actual Long Island circles described in the novel," she added.
The film stars Academy Award nominee Leonardo DiCaprio as Gatsby, with Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton, Isla Fisher, Jason Clarke, Elizabeth Debicki and Amitabh Bachchan also appearing.
