'Largest-ever' fuel cell vehicle trial begins 18th October 2007
Chevrolet is beginning trials of its fuel cell vehicles at major American cities this week, in what is claimed to be the largest market test of fuel cell vehicles yet undertaken.
More than 100 of the firm's Chevrolet Equinox fuel cell electric cars will be on the roads of Los Angeles, New York and Washington DC as of today as part of the scheme dubbed Project Driveway.
Once the participants have come to the end of the three-month trial period, they are required to report to the manufacturers who will use the feedback to determine the thrust of marketing campaigns and to develop the future advancement of fuel cell technology.
Dan Hancok, Vice President of General Motors' global engineering division, told fuelcellworks.com: "What we learn will directly influence future electrically driven vehicle generations and ultimate market acceptance.
"The Equinox Fuel Cell electric vehicle demonstrates an important milestone on our pathway to electrically driven vehicle development."
The Equinox Fuel Cell electric vehicle employs General Motors' fourth-generation fuel cell propulsion system and is being marketed in Europe as the HydroGen 4.
