Fuels and Lubricants Meeting was initially held by SAE alone. Due to a policy change, however, SAE decided to organize the conference twice a year, one in spring as an international and the other as domestic. It was 2000 when the 1^st conference took place in Paris, France as the onset of the international meeting. Since then, JSAE jointly with SAE held the meeting twice in Japan in the past: Yokohama in 2003 and Kyoto in 2007.

In the year of 2011, JSAE/SAE will host the conference as “2011 Powertrains, Fuels and Lubricants Meeting” in Kyoto.
